need help

Hi,

my laptop was running fine but it seemed to get infected
by virus where my entire C drive was wiped. however, my D-
drive where i store all the data remains fine. i need to
re-install xp on my computer, is it possible that i just
re-install on C-drive but leave D drive untouched?

thanks.

Yes ... However, if you encrypted your files on D: and don't have your EFS
Recovery 'stuff", you may not be able to access them ...

how would i just install xp on C but not D drive?!
thanks for the group's help.

The OS is normally only installed on one drive/partiton. Extra
drives/partitions don't need the OS to be installed. They only need to
be formatted, which yours already is.

The only time you install an OS on a second drive//partition is if
you're dual booting.

So, you just need to install XP as you normally do. Just pay attention
to the installation screens and be sure you select the correct
drive/partition. I learned this the hard way. My Windows is now
installed on the I;/ drive...:)
