Hello
I was wondering if it's possible to install XP Pro over Home?
How do I do it - Anything I should look out for?
And will I notice any benefit?

Have a nice day

Yes, unless your XP Pro is an OEM version.

Best way is to boot from the CD. If an upgrade is not possible you will be
warned about it. Be sure to read the screens carefully. If an upgrade is not
possible and you continue it will erase your current install.
And will I notice any benefit?

No, unless you are connected to a corporate network (domain), or need to use
EFS (Encrypted File System), or you need finer grained security (e.g.
network shares can be managed better with Pro)

Be sure you have a good backup before you start.

With a retail XP Professional version (either Full or Upgrade), yes. With an
OEM version, no.

How do I do it -

Just do an upgrade.

Anything I should look out for?

If your XP Home version has a service pack installed that's not on the XP
Professional CD, the upgrade will fail with a message that you can't upgrade
a newer version with an older one. In that case, either uninstall the
service pack first, or (better) slipstream the Service Pack into the XP
Professional CD.

And will I notice any benefit?

If you have to ask this question, the answer is almost certainly no. XP
Professional and XP Home are exactly the same in all respects, except that
Professional has a few features (mostly related to networking and security)
missing from Home. For most (but not all) home users, even those with a home
network, these features aren't needed, would never be used, and buying
Professional instead of Home is a waste of money.

Also note one other point not mentioned on any of those sites: Professional
allows ten concurrent network connections, and Home only five.

Thank you all for your replies, at least now I know It can be done

Just wanted you to know I have entered the snapdragon part of my life.

Part of me has snapped........... and the rest of me is draggin.....

Certainly. WinXP is designed to install and upgrade the existing
operating system while simultaneously preserving your applications and
data, and translating as many personalized settings as possible. The
process is designed to be, and normally is, quite painless. That said,
things can go wrong, in a small number of cases. If your data is at all
important to you, back it up before proceeding.

The upgrade from WinXP Home to WinXP Pro, in particular, almost
always goes smoothly, as both operating systems use the same kernel.

Back up your data, insert the WinXP Pro Upgrade CD, and follow the
on-screen prompts.

And will I notice any benefit?

That depends entirely upon how *you* use your computer. Probably not.

The WinXP Home and WinXP Pro versions are _identical_ when it comes
to performance, stability, and device driver and software application
compatibility, but are intended to meet different functionality,
networking, security, and ease-of-use needs, in different environments.
The most significant differences are that WinXP Pro allows up to 10
simultaneous inbound network connections while WinXP Home only allows
only 5, WinXP Pro is designed to join a Microsoft domain (a crucial
capability at most universities) while WinXP Home cannot, and only WinXP
Pro supports file encryption and IIS. (Oh, and WinXP Pro usually costs
roughly $100 USD more than WinXP Home.)
