install xp pro on HD that already has xp pro installed

I am trying to determin if I can install a new XP Pro w/svc pack 2 over
current xp pro on HD without having to reformat HD and without loosing all
the ciles and programs currently on HD. It appears that the system has an
invalid copy of xp pro and I have purchased a new copy and want to install
the new one.
