Install XP Pro from another CD

I help with the PC's at my church and here is my dilemma.
They have a Compaq that the HD crashed on. I replaced the
HD however when they bought it (refurbed) it did not come
with a recovery CD. I tried to install XP Pro from my
store bought copy using the product code for the XP Pro
that came with the PC (it's on the sticker on top of the
case). But when I try this it just tells me that it is
not a valid code. Is there a way to make this work? Any
help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

The Windows XP Product Key that was assigned to the Compaq PC
will only work with a Compaq Restore CD. Contact Compaq support
and request the appropriate Compaq Restore CD.

The alternative is to purchase a new license (Product Key)
so you can install Windows XP (and activate) using your
Windows XP CD.

Greetings --

You'll need to use the WinXP OEM installation CD that originally
came with
the computer.

Product Keys are bound to the specific type and language of
CD/license (OEM, Volume, retail, full, or Upgrade) with which they are
purchased. For example, a WinXP Home OEM Product Key won't work for
any retail version of WinXP Home, or for any version of WinXP Pro, and
vice versa. An upgrade's Product Key cannot be used with a full
version CD, and vice versa. An OEM Product Key will not work to
install a retail product. An Italian Product Key will not work with
an English CD.

Bottom line: Product Keys and CDs cannot be mixed & matched. You
have to have the specific type of installation CD for which that
license and Product Key was designed.
