I have just installed XP Professional on my notebook
computer. I am also planning on selling this machine
soon. If I uninstall XP, can I install it on a new
system? Will the same key activate it? Will I have to
contact Microsoft and notify them of the change? Thanks
in advance.

Hi Jon,

Yes, if it's a retail version. No if it is an OEM version.
Will the same key activate it?

Yes, but.....
Will I have to contact Microsoft and notify them of the change?

Possibly, if it has been less than 120 days since the last activation. You
will need to phone in activation and get a new code. All you need to do is
let them know what you did.
Thanks in advance.

You're welcome.

Provided it is a retail copy (and it sounds as if it is) and not an OEM
one, bought with Hardware, then you remove it from the one machine (eg
format the disk) and install on the new one. When it comes to
activation, you may find it will go through on the net anyway - if more
than 120 days since you last did it certainly will. If not, you will
have to phone a toll-free number that will be given, to explain and swap
one long number for another to check back as you type it in. Not a
major hassle, but be prepared for it
