I want to install windows xp home en xp pro on the same disk in of course different partitions. I have installed xp home in partition 1 without any problems. Then I hide the partition 1 with xp home and make, with help of Partition Magic v 8.0, partition 2 the partition for xp pro active. I install xp pro without any problems. After installation I can't read the partition anymore. Can you please help me, I have searched the internet for more then 3 days, and the only thing I can find is something about changing the boot.ini.

Thanks in advance........

You don't need to hide Partition 1. Just reinstall XPpro to
partition 2. The result should be a dual boot.

It seems that I have only XP home. I want to install two different partitions with XP home(is it posibble that both OS use the C:?) . What do you mean with reinstall?
So
hard disk 1 partition 1 WindowsXP Home drive letter C: NTFS
hard disk 1 partition 2 Windows Home drive letter C(?): NTFS
hard disk 1 partition 3 data FAT32

If you hide the XP Home partition, then the XP Pro installation cannot setup
the dual boot configuration using the boot.ini file because it is not aware
of the Home installation. You either need to unhide the Home partition and
reinstall XP Pro or use a third party boot manager.

Hello,

Sorry Ronnie I am a bit confused. I have the following configuration
It seems that I have only XP home. I want to install two different partitions with XP home(is it posibble that both OS use the C:?) .
hard disk 1 partition 1 WindowsXP Home drive letter preferable C: NTFS
hard disk 1 partition 2 Windows Home drive letter preferable C(?): NTFS
hard disk 1 partition 3 data FAT32

Correct me if I am wrong:
After installation of XP Home in partition 1, I boot from partition 1 without any hiding and install XP Home in partition 2.
Are these the right steps?

No. Check the drive letter for partition 2, boot with the XP CD and install
to that drive.

You cannot place both installations on the C: drive.

You can hide both installations and use a third party boot manager to select
which installation to use. This would show each installation as being on the
C: drive. If you have Partition Magic 8, you can use the included PQ Boot
for Windows to boot to a hidden drive.

If you hide one of the installations and try to use the built in XP boot
manager, this will not work because it cannot detect hidden drives. It will
only boot to the visible drive.

OK, so I use a bootmanager and I have installed on partition 1 XP. When I make this partition hidden and I install XP on the other partition 2 it still overrides the setting of the bootmanager. Can you please tell me what I am doing wrong.
