I would like to install my Windows 98 drive to a new machine which I
intend to buy and then purchase and XP upgrade for the Windows 98
drive for use on the same machine. My current machine is a Pentium
III 500 mhz Dell, 512 megs of ram and the hard drive is 70 gig 7200
rpm. Is this scenario feasible?

Thank you in advance for you help.

it is always better to reformat the drive before install.
do not take a hd from one pc and put it in another and
upgrade. scary consequnces

Feasible, but against the terms of MS EULA, which says that the
qualifying product for an upgrade (i.e. Win98) becomes part of the
product when you upgrade it to WinXP .. at which point you are not
allowed to use it on another machine.

Will it work - yes. Is it ethical/moral/legal/<whatever> - you decide.
