I want to uninstall XP and install Windows2000 Professional sp3. Does
anybody have a link with step by step info on exactly how to do this?
I've installed XP several times but never 2000. Thanks!

I dont think this is possible, neither going back from XP to W2K...!
Wouldn't it be easier to completely wipe out the hard disk, reformat it en
start with a clean installation of W2K?
Backup all your necessary documents, address book(s), email messages
etc..etc..etc..

I might have said that wrong. Can you just pop in the Windows2000 CD
and tell it to reformat and install like you do XP? I installed XP on
a new harddrive but I have also installed it on systems running 98se.
When I booted up with the XP CD in and started the installation, it
gave the option to reformat and install XP even with the previous
operating system installed. Does 2000 do this or is a separate
reformat required?

Simply boot from the Win2K installation CD. You'll be offered the
opportunity to delete, create, and format partitions as part of the
installation process. (You may need to re-arrange the order of boot
devices in the PC's BIOS to boot from the CD.)

To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000 install CD-Rom or setup
disks. The set of four install disks can be created from your Windows 2000
CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk directory on the CD-Rom and execute
makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the
prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.

Be sure to apply these to your new install before connecting to any network.

Thanks Dave. That was what I needed! I found a page at Microsoft
telling how to install but not all of this info was covered. Maybe I
can do it now.

You're welcome. Good luck.
