I Installed xp over 98 with a fat file system, it seems
that the hd was compressed. So the new os created a new
drive (f:) with ntfs file system and I can't seem to be
able to delete the 98 because it is compressed. Can anyone
help?

You are pretty much in a fix and the other recommendation in this thread
will render XP unbootable.

From MVP Doug Knox, is the following suggestion:
The only things that have to be left on the boot drive are

BOOT.INI (modified to remove the reference to the 9x installation) NTLRDR
NTDETECT.COM PAGEFILE.SYS HIBERFIL.SYS

The Windows 98 install folder and other files and folders can be deleted via

Explorer from the XP installation. XP will still be on a drive other than

C:, but will work just fine.

If you wanted XP to be the C drive you'd have to jump through quite a few
hoops to make it so.
