Install/Repair help, PLEASE??

I have a friend's system that I have clean installed WinXP on repeatedly (at
least 6- 8 times now). I t will work just fine and at some point, it will
tell me it can't copy the file (the file is available and nothing wrong with
it), or it just fails to boot back up. Each time, I try to do the repair-
sometimes it will fix it, sometimes not.

The best I've done is get to the SP1 update, get 3/4 of the way through it,
and it "bombs" on me again.

I have run Mem 86 on the memory- nor errors. Tested the HD- no errors. What
else do I need to check. This is extremely frustrating! Need help desparately!
 
You've checked Event logs, whilst you still had a functioning sys?
Presumably HD check was done with hd manu.utility?
Try memtest86+
 
Yes, I have done the HD check- no problems found. I did not check the logs.
Will do that when I get to a stable point.

I will also look for the Mem 86+.

Thanks! I am running that test now. Will let it run all night and see if I
learn anything new. Stay posted, and appreciate your help!
