Good morning :)

I have a quick question, I installed a program onto a computer on the 19 May
(last year) However, when the hard drive and registry were searched, it said
that the programe was installed some 5 months earlier, in Dec 04. I have
tried to look up this problem, and understand that installtion dates are not
always accurate. But I need to convince some people of this. Can anyone
provide me with the reasons why this happerns and what causes it? The system
is running XP1 with SP2 downloaded and updated in the normal way.
(Automaticly)
I have tried to Google this, but i can't seem to find a refences to this
problem - yet loads of Techies tell me it happerns! lol

Any websites reference would also be very useful

Thank you so much for reading this.

Many thanks

Drew

Hi

So far as I know, the Registry doesn't give dates of anything installed.
What program is it and did you install that program as soon as you
downloaded it?

The most accurate way I can find of determining installation dates
would be the creation of the actual folder. If you right-click on a
folder and go to properties, it will give you the timestamp of creation
from NTFS.

Obviously, these timestamps can be manipulated with programs such as
Total Commander, so if you have a malicious tech, he could have set it
to Dec 04 for all we know.
