I am trying to upgrade, but having 2 problems during
install.
1. During setup while in windows, it reads XP does not
recognize 3COM(which was an old 56k modem that I dont use
anymore). I removed this device but still prompts during
setup, can I ignore this?

2. During install it reboots to XP setup in DOS mode, I
get a prompt in DOS that reads...Line 81 of INF
file\$WIN_NT$.~BT\WINNT.SIF is invalid, then it says it
cannot continue.

How do I fix this problem, the booklet didnt give any
explanation for this.

Did you check the Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) for the hardware in your computer? You can check the hardware from the screen that comes up when you insert the disk with your current OS running (choose the "Check system compatibility > Check My System Automatically. Or you can, with the disk inserted and your current OS running, go "old school" from the command line "D:\i386\winnt32 /checkupgradeonly" (D: is your CD drive, so if your CD drive is E:, F:, etc., please adjust accrodingly). It sounds like you could have some incompatable hardware

Hi,

1. Yes

2. Disable any BIOS-level antivirus detection, then clean the CD.
