Install Problems

I am having a problem with Windows XP Home Edition. When I attempt to install a program (Mcafee), the setup begins, asks for the user agreement, and begins some sort of initial installation. It then asks me to reboot the system. When I reboot I have to go through the entire process again. It doesn't stick! It's not allowing me to complete any type of install. I've had this problem before trying to load Office 2003 on my system. It would complete part of the install and then hang up. I never was able to load 2003 on my system. I have a HP Pavillion 760. Is there anything I can look at that might direct me into resolving this problem.

Have you tried ignoring the request to reboot? So you have a copy of Office
2003, that cost about $350.00, just sitting on a shelf? That's an expensive
shelf ornament. To state the obvious, you have a problem with your system!
If you can't install applications, your HP Pavillion 760 is basically
worthless. Have you run all the critical updates from the Windows Update
website? Have you kept your anti-virus, firewall, and other security
software up to date? Have you run a virus scan of the entire hard drive? I
hate to suggest it, but have you considered reformatting and reinstalling
Windows?
