Hi,

My hard disk is currently seperated into 3 primary partitions with Linux
installed. If I was to shrink the existing partitions, would I be able to
install Windows XP on a fourth partition? I seem to remember in the past
having problems with windows being fussy about where it was installed but
can't remember whether it was to do with the partition I was attempting to
install it on or the drive.

Thanks.

Providing you are using a *real* bootmanager besides winders taking over
than yes it can be done........Not sure what you're using for a
bootmanager though as I'm not to up to date on Linux or how windows
reacts to installs with Linux present........I suppose rendering the
active partitions to be inactive at time of install may work. Maybe a
Linux group would be better suited as ya don't wanna mess things up ya
know......... ;0)

I can tell you how to get different windows versions on 4 primary
partitions but not when Linux is present. So to answer the question on
windows being fussy..yes...if you use windows tools. Third party
softwares no problem at all.

XP doesn't care where it is installed, but it will put its boot files on
the root of hda. You'll need to run the Grub configuration again.

Make sure you have a Linux boot CD or floppy so you can repair grub. Install
XP then boot from your Linux repair media and repair grub so you can boot
into Linux or Windows.
