When I attempt to install the XP home edition I purchased,
the setup just "stops" when it reaches the point where it
says "approximately 84 minutes left" nothing else
happens... the drive light never goes on and I have to
reboot to get the computer running again! This is so
frustrating... if this is my introduction to Windows XP I
must say I HATE IT! I've been on hold with Microsoft (not
a toll free call either) for approx 30 minutes and nothing
yet. I was on hold for 20 minutes with them last night!
Does anyone know what could be causing this? I am so
discouraged!

84 minutes?
What type of PC are you installing it on? Did you make sure you COULD
install it before starting? Was everythinhg in that computer compatible
with XP?

Paulette,

What OS was on this machine previously?

Was this a "clean install" or an upgrade over a previous OS?

Assuming that you have a prior OS and can boot up in it still:
I recommend that you run the MS WinXP Upgrade Advisor BEFORE
attempting to upgrade your system. It will identify any anticipated problem
areas that you'd need to address prior to successfully upgrading to WinXP.

Go to http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/howtobuy/upgrading/advisor.asp
to get this free utility.

It sounds like you may have to upgrade some drivers/BIOS BEFORE doing the
WinXP install successfully.
