I have been trying to reinstall my winxp pro for some time
now. Every time it starts to freeze up during "installing
network" After a botched driver install for a nic(asound)
things have been going downhill. Could not connect to the
internet. Decided to start from scratch and now I can't
even install the thing. I have changed every component
with a new one. Mobo, psu, harddrive, cd drive, cables,
nic. I nearly have a new pc. I've played with the bios
and set pnp to enabled. I've reset the bios to fail safe
options but still no go. I've taken out the nic and the
install still holds at "installing network". From boot
from cd drive to partition, format and then installation
goes fine, product key input goes well, languages option
no prob, time zone no prob, but as it goes into the 32 min
mark, into networks the hd led light goes dark and no
response. The screen still flashes product information
but the green bar does not progress. I have installed
this os from the cd successfully on another computer so it
is not the cd. Please help a man at the edge of insanity.

If this is a new computer/motherboard: Check the CPU bus
speed setting. Initially, the jumper (JP2) was set
to 'Auto' from the manufacturer (L4VXA2 P4 motherboard;
Celeron 2.66 GHz CPU, 400 MHz FSB) Changed it to '533'
(I'm running one stick of 512 MB DDR RAM. When I first
started XP and W2K installs, I first had to disable L1/L2
cache which of course is really slow, and after reboot re-
enabled it - still crashed. Resetting the mobo's bus speed
corrected the problem.
