Insertion point jumps to "I" beam when typing

Sometimes when typing in Word the insertion point and the text I am typing
will jump to the "I" beam location of my mouse. How do I fix this? It is
driving me crazy.
 
Laptop? Keep your hands away from the touch pad. Desktop? Turn off the
microphone.It is possible that speech recognition software is causing the
problem.
