Inserting sound files

Hi! I have inserted music files in several places throughout my presentation. THe smaller files embedded into the presentation, the larger ones did not. Those larger files are the problem... they only play when I right click on their icon and hit PLAY, they won't play in the presentation. I noticed that when I right click on the sound object icon and go to EDIT SOUND OBJECT, it states in the information section that the total playing time is 00:00. Can anybody tell me how to 1) make it play in the presentation and 2) how to get the objects to embed into the presentation? I have it set to LINK SOUNDS WITH FILE SIZE GREATER THAN 100K. It used to be 24K. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

Change the amount in the "link sounds with file size greater than" to 50000. That will embed any sound file up to 50MB. (I really wish that thing were labeled differently -- "embed WAVs smaller than XXX kb" would certainly make more sense.)

Also, know that only WAV sounds can be embedded, regardless of size.

Also know that you have to change your linked/embedded sound size setting and then reinsert the sounds.

Thank you, I changed as you suggested and they now embed. However, they still show the playing time as 00:00, and I can only play the music when I RT click on icon and hit PLAY. Do you know how I can get it to play in the presentation?

hm. Not sure.

What version of PPT?
How are you inserting the sound files? (Step by step, please.)
Where are the files on your system?
What do the animation settings for the sounds look like? Do you want the sounds to play across slides, or are they just intermittent sound effects or what?

I'm using PT 2003.
To insert: INSERT>MOVIES and SOUNDS>SOUND FROM FILE> and a click on WAV file held in a folder on my desktop. THese are files of music, some are full songs, some are clips, which are found throughout the presentation and used for background music while slides are changing.

The sound files that work in the presentation have an icon that is a blue speaker, and those that don't work have a yellow speaker.

Animation settings: START- After Previous, Property and Speed are both grayed out. The PLAY button at the bottom of the Custom Animation box, it plays for only one second, then stops, no sound.
I really appreciate your help.

I'm trying to remember the difference between the two different colors on the sound icons, but it's escaping me right now. I've seen both yellow and blue, but I can't remember what the difference is. Though now that I think about it, I may never really have figured out the difference!

FWIW, everything I insert here tonight into PPT 2003 has a yellow speaker, and those are playing just fine. If I insert sounds into PPT 2000, those have a blue speaker. (I'm inserting the same sounds, by the way.) Interesting.

At any rate, right-click the animation for the sound in the custom animation task pane and select Effect Options. Put 999 in the box for "stop playing after" and see if that helps.

More info on sounds across slides is available at http://www.rdpslides.com/pptfaq/FAQ00047.htm

Rich,
Try this: Right click the animation. Select Effect Options. On the Effect
tab, which settings are selected? I am guessing that the Stop Playing option
is set to "On next mouse click". try changing it to "After__ Slides". Be
sure to set the number of slides to something other than one.

Does that make a difference?

Sounds inserted when editing the file in previous versions of PPT vs those
inserted by PPT2003,maybe?
