Hi,
I'm a little confused. I am currently running Office XP
on a Dell. I used to have no problem inserting music
files in my PowerPoint program with my old computer. I
belive it has to do with the music file itself, but not
sure. I rip the CD with Dells MusicMatch. I then find
the MP3 file and insert it into the presentation, but
nothing plays. I then try to open Windows Media player
and it just beeps at me - does nothing. Does powerpoint
need Windows Media player to play the song. If I have it
go directly to the CD it works ok - ahhh!! But I have
different songs from different CDs. Any help would be oh
so appreciated!!

You can try the music files using the MCI Media Player (start/run
mplay32.exe), but I doubt they'll play in it, and that's what PPT uses to
play multimedia files. So if they don't play in mplay32.exe, they're not
gonna play in PPT, either.

I believe Music Match uses a proprietary codec, and that's what the problem
here is. I'd use a different sound editing program to rip the files to MP3.

PPT 2000, 2002 and 2003 all support MP3. PPT 97 will play an MP3 inserted in
one of those other versions, but you cannot insert an MP3 into PPT 97.
