inserting music file

when I insert a music file and select a "start playing" time, it does not
automatically transition to the next slide at the preset interval. If I
select "play from beginning", the transition is fine.

How can I get it to start at a certain point in the music file AND continue
to progress through my slide show.

THANKS!

Geetesh and Suvodip both sent you to the PPT FAQ entry for "playing sound
across slides."

I believe, though, that you know how to do that already and your problem is
linked to the fact that you're trying to trim some time off of the beginning
of your sound files.

One of the versions of PPT has a bug where, if you try to change the sound
start time from its beginning, it doesn't play correctly. I forget which
one, but I think it's PPT 2002 (aka PPT XP). And I can't remember if it
works correctly in PPT 2003 or not, either -- in other words, if it is a
2002 issue, I don't know that it's been addressed in 2003 or not.

Anyway, the only thing I can suggest is to trim the file appropriately in a
sound editor so that PPT can play it "as is" from the "beginning" of the
sound file.

Hello,

It sounds like the "Continue slide show" setting did not get set. You might
have to trick PowerPoint 2003/2003 into setting this since it's not
available through new Custom Anmation task pane or effect settings dialogs.
Try the following:

1) Tools -> Options
2) In the "Edit" tab, select "New animation effects" in the "Disable new
features" group and click "OK"
3) Select the icon for the inserted sound file on the slide it begins on
4) Slide Show -> Custom Animation (this should bring up the old animation
settings dialog)
5) In the "Multimedia settings" tab make sure that the "Continue slide
show" option is selected and click "OK"
6) Run the slide show.

It the presentation now works the way you want, you will probably want to
restore the ability to use the new custom animation interface:

7) Tools -> Options
8) In the "Edit" tab, uncheck "New animation effects" in the "Disable new
features" group and click "OK"

If you (or anyone else reading this message) think that it's important that
PowerPoint should make it easier to change this setting, don't forget to
send your feedback (in YOUR OWN WORDS, please) to Microsoft by either:

PREFERRED METHOD:

A) If you are using Microsoft's web-based, online newsreader for Office
communities
(http://www.microsoft.com/office/community/en-us/default.mspx?dg=microsoft.p
ublic.powerpoint), check to see whether or not the suggestion has been
submitted before (Show -> Suggestions for Microsoft) and, if so, add your
vote to the suggestion submission. If the suggestion has not been submitted
before, click on the "New" drop-down menu and choose "Suggestion for
Microsoft" from directly within the newsreader web page.

OR, NEXT BEST METHOD:

B) If you are using another newsreader (such as Microsoft Outlook Express),
submit your suggestion using your web browser at the following address:
http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

It's VERY important that, for EACH wish, you describe in detail, WHY it is
important TO YOU that your product suggestion be implemented. A good wish
submssion includes WHAT scenario, work-flow, or end-result is blocked by
not having a specific feature, HOW MUCH time and effort ($$$) is spent
working around a specific limitation of the current product, etc. Remember
that Microsoft receives THOUSANDS of product suggestions every day and we
read each one but, in any given product development cycle, there are ONLY
sufficient resources to address the ones that are MOST IMPORTANT to our
customers so take the extra time to state your case as CLEARLY and
COMPLETELY as possible so that we can FEEL YOUR PAIN.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).
