inserting lines between text

I have created a text document for which I have several areas that I would
like to insert solid underlines of varying lengths for later text input. I
do not want the line to move, split, or break when adding text. I want the
line to be stationary and solid.

Please, what must I do?
 
Thanks for your reply, I had actually read the link you provided previously
but still couldn't figure out what to do - I really need to subscribe to
"Help for very SLOW learners."

After much playing around I got the darn line in, and am able to keep it
where I want it without the text moving one way or another..don't know how
the heck I did it, but it is done!
