Inserting documents

I have a 60 page master document with a specific formatting paradigm. I want to insert preformmated documents into the master document, but not have the master document reformat the inserted subdocs, which is what happens when I insert the files or copy and paste

I thought the issue was with autoformatting, but I disabled it, and did not have any luck

Finally, I do not want the headers within the subdoc to be in the TOC. When i change or clear the formatting of a heading in the subdoc, the entire document is reformatted, or at least ever instance of, say, heading 2

I found that inserting linked objects works very well, however, I can only insert single pages, and that will take a long time. I am trying to insert about 60 pages of formatted text and tables and images as an appendix to the master document, which is 60 pages as well.

Is there a good (and efficient) way to do this

Any tips would be appreciated, thanks.

Forget about master documents. They're a disaster from almost every point of
view. Apart from the problems you mention, they are horribly prone to
corruption.

The sub-documents *will* inherit the styles defined for the master. No
getting around that one. Consistency of style across the document as a whole
is the main 'benefit' of a master document.

The TOC-level headings *will* be included in the TOC. You can get around
that by defining a bookmark for the section of the document to be included
in the TOC, then add a \b switch to the TOC field.

Not sure what you're referring to about headers and your TOC. If you
redefine heading 2, that new definition will apply to all heading 2
paragraphs: that's how styles work. But that has nothing to do either with
TOCs or with headers.
