OS - Windows XP Home.

Merely installing a firewire card totally destroys my
home network connection. My "automatically assigned"
(router) IP and gateway addresses are incorrect. The
only way to reverse things is to remove the firewire card
and do a system restore.

How can I disable whatever process is causing this?

After installing the FireWire card, look in the Network Connections
folder and see if there's a network bridge between Ethernet and
FireWire. If there is, right click and delete the Network Bridge.

Look in Device Manager to see if it reports problems with either the
Ethernet or FireWire device.

Thanks for the reply....

No network bridge between the firewire and the ethernet
is listed in Network Connections.

No problems are shown in Device Manager.

I've tried disabling the firewire connection in both
Network Connections and Device Manager. The problem
still persists, even though both places designate the
firewire connection as "disabled".

Very, very confusing.....
