Insert pictures in powerpoint

At work, we had created several different powerpoint
presentations in which we had inserted several images,
located on the web, using the 'link to file' option, so
that everytime we would open the presentation, the image
would automatically update itself. This was using
powerpoint in office 2000. Now, since updating to office
xp, the 'link to file' option is no longer choosable when
you insert an image located at an HTML address. Is this
the way it is supposed to be? Or is there some option
that I need to turn on? Any and all help would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Rafe

Rafe,
On the 'Insert' button' itself there is a little down arrow. Clicking on it
will give you the option 'Link to file'. Select that and you then click on
the button. This will link create a link to file.

Shyam,
That's the way it used to work with Powerpoint 2000. But
now, when I go to click on the arrow, it instead just
loads the image and embeds it into powerpoint. It never
even opens the 'drop down' menu. This is only for images
located on the web...other images seem to work just fine.

Anyone else have an idea on why I can no longer 'link to
file' when inserting pictures located on the web?

I guess I'm kind of dense here. If you use Insert/Picture/From File, how are
you getting to a picture on the web?

I just tried here -- I pasted the full path to an image on my website in the
File Name area of the Insert/Picture/From File dialog in PPT 2003. I was
prompted for my username and password to my site, but after I input that,
the image inserted and I was able to link to it.

Tried the same with a logo from a friend's site. Linking seems to work fine
here -- well, as far as I can tell, anyway. You just have to be careful to
hit the arrow beside the Insert button after you paste/type the path into
the File Name area.
