In Outlook 2002, pictures I insert into the text of a new message (not as
attachments) suddenly appear as a blank box or border only. I tested this in
a Word document (since my Outlook formatting is based on Word) and the
picture gets inserted normally, without a text box. I email in HTML. Checked
all (I think) the settings and tried a number of variations, but in vain .
Suggestions re inserting pictures into the aqctual text of email messages
will be greatefully appreciated.

What procedure are you using to insert the images?

Thanks for your reaction. My procedure is: place cursor in text window, clik on Insert, then picture, then from file, then click on picture brought up, and then on insert in the window where the picture is selected.

Thanks for your reaction. I place cursor in email text pane, click on
Insert, then on Picture, then on From file. When picture chosen, I click on
it and on Insert in the window where it came up. Normally, the picture just
showed up in the text pane. Hope you got this: it's my first time in a
discussion group.

That sounds slightly strange. After Insert > Picture, you should be getting a
dialog window and the next step would be to click on the Browse button to
navigate to the image.

Do you have Outlook fully updated? Look in Help > About... to view version
level. Does it report (10.6515.6735) SP3 ?

Sorry. In my description I skipped that step. I do get that dialog window
and then click on the Browse button, navigate to the picture, then click on
the picture to insert or alternatively click on the Insert button.
Re my Outlook I have (10.6515.6626)SP3. Thanks again for your input.

This can be a tough problem to zero in on. The only thing I could suggest now
would be to check your system for parasites, malware, etc. Then go to the
Windows Update site and the Office update site to verify that you have all the
latest security patches installed.

It's important to have IE & OE up-to-date since some of their patches also
affect the rendering of HTML messages in Outlook.

See this page for good info and download links:

The above page also has a link to a site that will check your system for you.
Look for "Online Parasite Scanner".

I highly recommend Spybot S&D and Ad-aware as search & removal tools. Spybot can
also immunize your system from any future problems such as these.

For an even more proactive method of protection, see this link:

If I'm off-target, hopefully someone else will jump in with a solution for you.

Thank you very much for all your input. I'll go through what you suggest. I
will get back to you with results. It's really very kind of you to try and
help me.
