infinite errormessage bombardment

I installed visual C++ 5.0 on my XP computer. Ever since I
did that (two days ago), about once every minute the same
errormessage appears with the header "APP_BK_078", and the
message says: "Connection timed out. Error #10060". After
a while, say one hour, the screen is plastered with the
same message. This goes on even after I restart the
computer and also after I unistalled the visual C++. Does
anyone have a clue as to how I can make this harassment
stop?

You have a virus.

I had the same problem, and cgtask.exe was running as a process. I
killed it and the popup boxes disappeared, so I searched the web for
cgtask.exe, and found
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/backdoor.lala.html

Run a virus scan on your computer and ensure you are using updated
virus definition files.
