Hi,

With in the last week or 2 my mouse will randomly stop responding for a
second or 2 then start working again. I can't figure out what is wrong. I
have done virus scans, spyware, etc scans and all come up clean. I have not
changed anything. I have decided to uninstall and reinstall the driver and I
still have problems. Plus the random defraging, rebooting my system, etc.

Nothing is working. Do any of you have any thoughts?
Tell me what you need to know and I'll give you the needed info. The driver
is the lastest on the MS website.

Thanks,

TC

It's an Optical MS IntelliMouse Explorer 2.0a USB Compatible. That's what
it says on the bottom. I can't find a actual model number just it's name. I
can give a long serial number. But I'm thinking that's not needed.

The most common reason is the easiest to fix--change the frequency. Push the
button on the receiver, then the button on the bottom of the mouse.

As another follow up. This is a wired mouse.

Try this:

Click Start-Run-Type devmgmt.msc and click OK. Now at the bottom you
will see Universla Serial Bus Controllers. Click the + next to it and
right click on USB Root Hub and click properties (do these steps for
every USB Root Hub you have listed). Now go to the Power Management Tab
and uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."
After doing this for all of your USB Root Hub's, reboot your computer
and see if the problem persists :)

I would go back to the drivers that came with the mouse and see if the
problem still exists in this case. The latest drivers are not always the
best ;)

I don't have them. Also the current that I have did work before this last OS
reinstall. Installed everything the same way as before.

Maybe, another XP install? :)

TC

Sounds like a shot. I would try a repair first. Boot off the XP CD,
choose install, then it will find existing Windows, press R to repair,
and let it do the magic.

LOL, I do the whole install normally :) FDISK and all :)

I did notice one thing that might mean something and might not I thought I
would pass on before a repair or a reinstall.

I've noticed when I shut down my computer the Num Lock light stay's on in my
computer. Might there be a connection? I haven't seen anything in the BIOS
that looks wrong. Hmmm.

The mouse freezing is a common problem right now. My suspicion is that
windows updates are breaking mouse drivers. Your only fix is to
uninstall all video drivers and mouse drivers. Reboot, reinstall video
drivers, reboot, reinstall mouse drivers. :(
