Control Panel and Indexing Options. Though it runs by default anyway on
start up.

Maybe if you describe the issue and exactly what you want to do then you can get a correct answer.

Just guessing at your question I would ask you if you have the Indexing Service turned ON in the Service Manager.

You can try rebuilding the Index. Open Control Panel > Indexing Options >
Advanced > accept UAC > under the Index Settings tab > under
"Troubleshooting" > click Rebuild > OK.

This is strange, The service is running, but the indexing is not running in
control panel. now what?

Hi,

Only files that have indexing attribute set will be indexed.

I had my files not indexed because I removed indexing bit when using XP.

Check also indexing locations.

So How can I get it back on

If you select drive properties there is a checkbox about indexing that
refers to the whole drive.

Individual files on the drive also have properties->advanced, among them
there is
the indexing bit.

Hi,

I have the same problem. Windows Search service is on, but when I go to
Control Panel > Index irt shows that "index is not running" and the Modify
and Advanced buttons are disabled. Any solutions how to get it back working?
