Hi

I've marked the word Titanic as an index entry and it appears on lots of
pages. Is there an easy way to delete the index entry code for each
occurrence. The only way I can see is to delete each field code which will
take ages.

I'm using v2000.

Thanks

Anita

Make a COPY of the document, in case this fails somehow.

Do whatever is necessary to get all index field markers showing, which I
think is Alt-F9 to toggle field codes and Tools | Options, View and set
Hidden Text to show.

Then go to Find and Replace. Enter ^19 XE in the Find box (will find all
index fields) and nothing in the Replace box (will replace them with
nothing).

Click Replace All.

To delete the index entry fields for just the "Titanic" entry, you need to
search for ^19 XE "Titanic" and replace with nothing.

Oops! Glad I put in that line about make a copy. I knew I wasn't very
experienced with those field F&R solutions.

Thanks for the catch.

That's very useful thanks - how do you know where to get the code from (the
19 bit that is?)

Actually, I think ^d probably works just as well, and you can get that by
clicking "Field" in the Special area of Find and Replace. For other codes,
see “WD97: Control Codes to Use with Find and Replace (Edit Menu)†at
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=197855. This is an old article, but I
don't think any new codes have been introduced.
