Incorrect winxp serial entered

I upgraded my pc hardware and the tech who did it entered the wrong serial
even though I gave him my serial from my box.

How can this be resolved?

How can I activate?
 
How did he enter it,did he install xp....Thier is no "serial number" thier
is a
"product key" number,to activate simply select "activate windows" use the
phone option,call the 800 #,type in youre product key #,if it wont take it,
a microsoft tech comes on to assist.....
