Incorrect Unread Email Count

I am running XP Home Edition and Outlook 2003. On the
welcome screen I frequently see the message "X unread
emails" ... but Outlook shows that all emails are read.
Both programs are current on updates and I run Norton
Antivirus 2004. Any thoughts?

Could Outlook Express have downloaded some new messages somehow?

How would I know for sure? When I look at the stats in add/remove programs it tells me that Outlook Express is used rarely, last time May 2003. So I think the answer is no. But the next time I see an unread msg, I'll go start outlook express and see what's there. thanks, and if you have any thoughts on how to check to see if this process is running, I'd appreciate it. john

OE won't run unless you start it yourself, as far as I know. I don't know
of any other programs that would show an unread message count in Windows
besides OE and Outlook, but it's possible there is another reason for
this...
