Hi all,

Not very computer literate, but have just installed Vista Home Premium on my
3 yr old Dell Laptop (which said was compatible), and when i try to use the
computer now, the whole Vista interface is squashed into a small box in the
center of the screen, i.e. not full screen. Have gone to Control Panel -
Display etc., but do not have an option to make screen bigger :(

Please help! Much Appreciated

Right click desktop, select Personalize, Click Display Settings (bottom link),
adjust Resolution slider.

After you installed Vista, did you then go to Dell's website for your
specific model laptop and download all Vista drivers for your hardware?
If you didn't, then this is your next step. Not having correct video
drivers is part of your problem.

If Dell doesn't provide Vista drivers for your hardware on that machine,
it would be better to put XP back on it.

Yes, and additionally once the resolution is correctly set but is still not
fitting the screen, it could be that the monitor controls need attention via
its menus or some sort of Auto function. Doug

If he puts XP back on, he still has to download the video drivers from Dell.
I have struck the problem in XP when customers have wanted full retail
versions installed over Dell's OEM. i know what he is talking about with that
small square box in the middle of the monitor. definitely video

Yes, of course he has to install drivers for everything if he puts XP
back on the laptop. But we know that Dell has XP drivers for his model
laptop because that's what came on it since the machine is 3 years old.
We don't know if Dell has drivers for Vista, which was part of my point.
