This is directed towards Pegasus, but anyone who knows, feel free to post.
Regarding another post (Multiboot, in the Win XP General Forums), I
downloaded and ran a copy of a Win 98 Bootdisk from bootdisks.com
I then used its Sys command after booting from this disk. However I used it
on the wrong drive and now my XP installation is corrupted and will not boot.
Can anyone provide me with a list of files that the Sys command copies so I
can overwrite them with good copies.

Thanks in advance

Evils Dark,

You will need to edit your boot.ini file located in C:/. Before editing you
will need to read up on the subject to determine the correct number of
partitions, number of disks, etc. Before editing follow the below steps.

* Insert the Windows XP CD-ROM, Start your computer 'from the Windows XP
CD-ROM'
* At the options screen, Press 'R' to repair Windows by using the Recovery
Console
* Select your Windows installation and enter the administrator password (if
you use one)
* Type bootcfg /add press Enter
* When a missing Windows Installation is located, press 'Y' to add the
installation to the boot list
* At 'Enter Load Identifier', type Windows XP Professional or Home Edition
* At 'Enter Operating System Load Options', press Enter
* Exit the Recovery Console and select the first item on the boot menu
* After you log on, edit C:\Boot.ini to remove the improper entry (Windows
98)

Note:

Here is an example of my boot.ini file:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP
Professional" /fastdetect

Wouldn't it be easier to simply run fixboot from Recovery Console?

Drew Tragnola -
I accessed the boot.ini from another OS, and it had no reference to Win 98
at all, and the XP reference was fine. It is almost identical to yours,
except it contains a reference to 95 and 2k Pro When XP boots, it displays
the Win 98 screen for a split second before going to a Command Prompt, which
will not recognise any commands.
I will try what you said regardless, and post back if there are any problems.

Steve N -
I will try that too

I am not sure which method worked, as I tried both of them in one go. Thank
you, Windows now boots properly & everything. In addition, I also managed to
add a refernce to another Windows installation that wouldn't work before.

Thanks
