Hello,
Using Windows XP SP2 and Office XP SP 3 I cannot get word to save a file to
my cd burner. When I choose save as I get a message that says "incorrect
function" I am able to save directly to the drive in Notepad and other
applications, it appears to be just an office problem. I have tried another
computer with Windows XP SP1 and Office XP and it has the same problem. Is
there some conflict between the two? Is there an update to solve this
problem?

I have looked at these KB articles
315350 which looked very promising, but roxio easy cd creator has never
been installed on this computer.

I continue to have the problem

Hi, Cory. Do not open Office files directly from, or save Office files
directly to, removable media (including CDs). Instead, modify the
Office files on your hard drive, then when you have closed the files and
Office applications, use your CD mastering software to copy the files
from your hard drive to the CD.

Thank you Garfield but that does not solve my problem. What if I want to
save a file to my hard drive then to a cd from word? It also doesn't
explain the error nor why it doesn't work in office but every other program.

Word, Excel, and Powerpoint need to be able to create and delete several
temporary files in the same folder where the main document file is
saved. For example, http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=211632 lists the
kinds of temporary files that Word needs to be able to create and delete
as it needs to... Word can't do this when the main document file is on a
CD (hence the error message you get), and there may not be enough disk
space for Word to do this when the main document file is on a floppy
disk, which often results in corrupted document files. I only offer
suggestions about Word, no amount of which will solve your problem.
