Incorrect Function Error with Network Tasks

For some reason, my XP Professional system can no longer connect to my
Windows 2000 Domain. I have another system that is connecting without any
problems using the same login. When trying to map drives, I was getting
"Incorrect Function" returned as the error. I thought that it might be a
domain issue so, I disconnected the computer from the domain. Now, I cannot
rejoin the computer to the domain. I am getting the same error "Incorrect
Function" when trying to do that.

Does anyone have any idea on what might have happened to my system? Also,
what would be the best way to fix that would have minimal impact on user /
application configurations?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

DWB

David,

If you search the Microsoft web site for "Incorrect Function", you'll get a
handful of things to look for. Try and narrow it down, look at Event Viewer and
see if there's any details there.

I have looked at the log and there are not any errors being generated when
trying to join the domain. I have also, tried renaming the computer so that
it would create an entirely new account when joining; this did not change
the outome.

There was one thing that i found a 1058 error with trying to access the
Group Policy data on the server. I thought that this might be a lead. But,
since the computer is no longer on the domain, I cannot look at the group
policies. I have checked the Registry configuration that is discussed about
this error and it seems to be okay. I am really at a loss.

Any other input would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Thanks for any help that I have received. This was a McAfee issue! I just
received a patch for their firewall application and guess what... The
problem stopped...

Wow. I am glad my Symantec Software arrives today...

David,

Thanks for letting us know. I wouldn't bet my paycheck on Symantec being that
much better though. Stay safe.
