Incorrect Free Space reported by WinExplorer

I have an annoying problem that is afflicting both my C
drive and an external hard drive. The Free Space reported
by Windows Explorer is incorrect. When I do a CTRL A on
the contents of either drive, "Properties" reveals a
significantly lower amount of used disk space eg on the
55gig C drive, only 40gig is used, but Windows Explorer
is reporting only 5gig free. On the external drive, there
is a 40gig difference. I do a lot of video editing, and
therefore create, and then delete, large AVIs. After I
delete a multi-gig AVI, the fee space didn't change.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

To all who helped, thanks a lot. I finally worked it out:
the Norton Protected files were the culprit! I perged
them from the Norton Protected Recycle Bin (right click
properties), and got all my free space back. Thanks a
lot, Symantec, for a poxy system. Surely, if I nominate
only 10% of my drive as a recycle bin, then the protected
files shouldn't use pu ALL my spare space?
