Dear Community

Once I have shut down the pc for more than say 6 hours
the os clock at start up reverts to March 16th (or was
that 15th?) 2001. The Pc is also suffering frequent
freezes - sometimes 2/3 in 5 mins but then runs ok for a
couple of hours.

Running WIN XP Home with AMD Athlon 1Ghz with 512 Mb if
Ram. The Big hard d rive is a little under a year old -
the motherboad is gettin on for its 4th birthday.

Does the clock situation offer a clear diagnosis
opportunity?

Peter;
You most likely need a
Battery for your motherboard.
Normally a CR-2032 about the size of a dime.
Available at most places that sell watch batteries for about $2.

Once the battery is replaced, Reset Defaults in the BIOS or the
settings of your choice.

Check the motherboard/computer manual or contact the manufacturer for
details.

thanks jupiter
i'll give it a go.
