Inconsistent Footnote text pattern

I just noticed a small thing...but I am aiming for camera-
ready copy. I have about 400 footnotes (I am a patrhetic
academic) in a book. Sometimes there is a space between
the footnote reference number and the footnote text, other
times no space. I prefer the space. How do I make all
footnotes: FOOTNOTE REFERENCE NUMBER SPACE FOOTRNOTE TEXT?

This is the default (though I don't know why). In the footnotes that don't
have a space, most likely you or someone else backspaced over it. It should
be possible to use a wildcard replace to search for the Footnote Reference
style in the footnotes only, find instances where it's followed by a
character other than a space, and insert a space. See
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/General/UsingWildcards.htm. To search just the
footnotes, I think if you start your search in the footnote pane, Word will
search all the footnotes to the end of the document and then ask if you want
to look in the rest of the document. This would be worth an experiment.
