Tried to reinstall Outlook2000 from CD, SR-1. Tried to launch from icon, but
'operation failed', because the application seems to have only 167kb file in
Outlook directory.
The CD SR-1 declares MS Outlook is part of Office2000PRO. Have re-installed
3 times, no luck.
Not at all sure why SR-1 did not install all of Outlook2000.

Have to use wife's email, since my Outlook is not working.
Thanks for any advice.

Why are you reinstalling? If the CD is strictly SR-1, then that's all you're
going to get is the service release. You would need to reinstall from the
original CD. Usually reinstalling is a last resort however since there are
many ways to have Outlook running properly. What issues were you seeing that
caused you to want to reinstall?

Not quite sure what you do; you mention an "Outlook directory" - where
is this directory?

You also mention "launch from icon"; what icon is this?

Do you have OUTLOOK.EXE in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10 ?

Also, most Office components can be activated/deactivated during the
installation - did you activate/install *all* components, including Outlook?

Thanks for the ideas:

I had to reinstall XP-SP2 and then Office2K. I did a clean XP install, and
then installed Office2K from a disc marked 'SR-1, Disc 1'. It loaded Excel
and Word ok. It loaded the window of Outlook, but not any file named
OUTLOOK.EXE.
Unusual error messages appears during launching of Word: 'wait while XP
configures...', and then 'compile errors in hidden module: autoexec'. BUT
the file opens ok.
It makes me wonder if this CD is healthy. I believe I used this CD for the
first installation 2 years ago. I believe.

Thanks for the advice, as I keep looking.

K:
My PC had gotten slower and seemed to bog down.
I reinstalled XP-SP2 from my CD.
I then used this SR-1 Disc1 with Authentication code to load Office 2000.
The Excel and Word execs seems to launch ok, beyond a initialization message
in Word '..compile error in hidden module: autoexec'. It opens up ok.
I believe that I used this same CD to do my original Office2K installation 2
years ago.

Thanks for the advice,

Clayton

Don't use autoexec; use the setup.exe file on the CD. Do you actually
get to the screen where you select the components you install?

If part of Office 2000-SR1 is already installed, you can go to Control
Panel, Add/Remove Programs, then do a Repair of the office installation
(use the Change button) - it will also give you the option to add or
remove Office components.
