Running xp home edition. For reasons unknown to me I've
been getting random bluescreen stop messages. After
scanning for viruses and trying System Restore, the
problem continued.
After much frustration, I decided to reinstall xp from
the CD. It's a full version but the screen prompted me to
choose either an upgrade install or complete install. The
term "upgrade" confused me because I know it's not an
upgrade version. However, I selected "upgrade" because it
sounded like I would not lose my data.
It began copying files but on several occasions progress
stopped, stating that it was unable to copy a file, and
prompted me to skip them or escape from the install. Each
time I chose to Skip. However, I eventually got the
dreaded blue screen before the install completed.
I cannot get windows to reinstall.
Using a boot disk, I was able to boot up windows by
hitting F8 while it's booting up and selecting "Other OS"
(or soemthing like that) and bypassing the incomplete
install.
However I'm unable to open and run many of my programs,
and my system seems plagued with missing dll files and
other troubles.
Naturally, liek everyone else, I'm working on projects
with tight deadlines. I need to get it up and running and
I need my programs working. ASAP.
I thought of trying to upgrade to xp pro, or just buying
a new computer! i'm frustrated. Any advice?
Thank you for any help.
P.S. I am not at all experienced with using command
prompts or tinkering with registry files. Willing to try,
with guidance, if it will solve my problems.
