incompatibility of xp and several games

why do several games broderbund and interplay work on my
windows 95 computer but not on xp. one says it needs
quicktime 2.1 or later (I have 6.3) another hangs after
initial scene with no sound. the interplay game causes
a "serious Error and a reboot
