Why do I have to push the "send/receive" button before the mail available to
me to view in the inbox?

Waiting for the punchline........

If you need assistance, you need to help us help you. What version of
Outlook? If 98 or 2000, what mode? What do you have set under your mail
delivery options? Did you define a set interval for send/receive under
Send/Receive settings if Outlook 2002 or 2003? Do you also have Send
Immediately When Connected ticked under your Send/Receive settings?

Post all replies to the group to keep the discussion intact. Due to
the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After furious head scratching, Danigirl asked:

Is it possible that you mean is when you open Outlook it does not do an
automatic Send \Receive but rather you need to activate it manually?

Correct

I have Windows XP Pro...I have "ticked" the send/receive immediately
choice.... The Outlook program at work automatically places all email in my
inbox. I was just wondering why it didn't work the same with my program.

Thanks for trying to help.

The function of sending and receiving automatically upon startup is
controlled by the existence of an automatic send/receive interval, which
Milly mentioned already. She asked if you had defined said interval and you
haven't yet said whether or not you had.

I have indicated in the Outlook mail options set for "immediate"
send/receive. And when I click on the Send/Receive button, I get it
immediately. I was just wondering if I could set it (and how) to
automatically go into my Outlook inbox...without having to click on the
Send/Receive button.

That's not the same thing. You also haven't specified your Outlook version
(you did state your Windows version, which is less relevant).

I have Outlook 2003 version.

Under Tools - Options - Mail Format - Send/Receive Button - 5 minutes is
set for all accts & when Outlook is offline.

Since you have a send/receive interval set (but I'd change it to 10 minutes,
the recommended minimum), then Outlook should send and receive at startup.
Since it's not, you may have a corrupted send/receive settings file. The
first thing to try, with Outlook closed, of course, is to delete the file
%AppData%\Microsoft\Outlook\yourprofile.srs (where "yourprofile" is, of
course, the name of your mail profile, and then restart Outlook. You'll
probably have to reset your send/receive settings. If that doesn't work,
try creating a new mail profile in Control Panel>User Accounts>Mail>Show
Profiles>Add. In the Data Management section, point it at your current PST,
if that's what you use for a message store.
