Background:

I have a single telephone line into my home, however it is
organized to have two numbers one for voice and a
distinctive ring for fax. I have used a regualr special
ring fax machine( slow and costly) and now want to use my
Windows XP Fax Console to send and receive at high speed
and to be selective whether to print save or discard ( not
possible on the older stabdard fax machine.

Problem;

the Fax Console version of XP in my computer only allows
number of rings, not distinctive rings ( e.g. quick double
ring). The result is that each time my telephone line
rings the Windows fax console in my computer answers. If I
set the rings beyond that normally used for time to answer
a voice line the automatic telephone ansering facility
will cut in and answer the call.

Help:

Where canI find the software patch for FAX Cosole in my
Windows XP Home Edition.

I have tried to search in Microsoft and can't find my
prticualr problem solution.

Many Thanks Lloyd Flood

The "freebie" Windows fax software is basic. All applications like thsi
included in Windows is "basic".

My hunch is that if you can't find how to do this, then the option is
not there. Perhaps you need to consider buying more special purpose Fax
software.

Lloyd,

In followup, it also occurs to me there is a newsgroup by Microsoft
called microsoft.public.windowsxp.print_fax which might have some expert
help available for you.

Distinctive ring is not a feature of the MS Fax component. Some standalone
fax programs and some fax programs that ship with fax/modems include the
feature.
