I am unable to receive emails on windows email but i can send them fine.
Does anybody know the problem

If your sending is working SMTP there may be an issue with the POP address
you provided windows mail. Have you double-checked the POP3 address?

Sorry I couldn't be of more help, I am not all that inclined with mail
troubleshooting.

Without more details there is no way of telling what the problem is.

If you get an error message when trying to receive, right-click on it,
copy, then paste it into a reply here.

No offense, but why not leave the advice chore for those who are so "inclined"?

Is this a sudden, new problem or an ongoing one?

What happens when you try to receive mail? Post any error messages in their
entirety.

Are there messages in your inbox at the account's webmail page?

I started having this same problem yesterday, after seeing some Vista updates
installed automatically over the weekend (while I was using my laptop
out-of-state and off the usual network). I wonder if they are related.
Anyway, my error messaage, which my ISP was unable to help with, read as
follows:

Account: 'mail.ISPname.net', Server: 'mail.ISPname.net', Protocol: POP3,
Server Response: '-ERR authorization not enabled', Port: 110, Secure(SSL):
No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

Seems like an easy thing to fix, right? Well, maybe, but not for me or my
ISP.

Again, I can send messages OUT using Windows Mail, but I cannot receive
INCOMING messages that I know are on my webmail. Friday this was not a
problem, Monday, after updates, it was.

Is your correct server name mail.ISPname.net? There actually is a machine
with that name. We often need the correct server name to offer much help.

Also, what if any antivirus programs do you have? Some of them cause
assorted problems in Windows Mail, although seldom immediately.

Check your setup against Comcast's instructions:

They were written for Outlook Express, but should also work under
Windows Mail if you avoid the One Click Fix

Did you use the standard install for AVG? If so, it may help to uninstall
it, then do a custom install where you tell it to leave out the part that
scans
email.

No, actually it's comcast.net, running AVG antivirus.

1. Uninstall AVG Free Anti-Virus.

2. Reinstall it (or another AV app of your choice), this time choosing to do
a Custom install and opting-out of installing the Mail Scanner.

Email scanning provides no additional protection, it probably causing the
problem (assuming your account's set up right), and even Symantec says it's
not necessary:

<QP>
Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions.
