I have a Network with 3 computers running Windows 2000 Professional and I
recently bought a computer that runs with Windows XP Home Edition.
My real goal is not to make it part of the entire network, really. All I
wanted to be able to do is to access the Outlook .pst file, which is shared
by all the three computers in the network, with the computer running Windows
XP. I don't even want to share or access any other file between the network
and the new computer.
However, unless there is another way I am not aware of, I must add the
computer with the Windows XP to the Windows 2000 network in order to access
the .pst file.
The problem is that nothing I do seem to work. I've tried to run the network
setup wizard on the new computer, I tried to match user names and passwords,
I made sure that the firewall is not blocking the process, I tried to enable
the new computer for sharing and I even researched the community but nothing
has worked so far.
If I run the diagnostic on the new computer, everything seems to be ok but
for one thing. The Ping never returns and ends up timing out.
If I try to map the network drive from any of the computers that are on the
network already, I can see the new computer on the list of computers on the
network but when I click on it to try and access something, I can't see any
folders available.
If I try to map the network drive on the computer with windows XP, I can't
see any of the other computers at all.
