Inbox number of messages is incorrect

About a month after I started using Outlook, the number of messages to the
right of the word Inbox was "4" even though there were no unread messages
there. Now, a week later, this number is "8" even though there are no unread
messages. When I opened Outlook this morning for example, the number reported
was 15 although there were only 7 unread messages. When I'd read them all,
the number went down to 8 even though there are none unread.
 
Sounds to me as if you have a filter turned on.

Take a look at View|current view|customise current view

and check out the filters bit to make sure it is turned off.
 
I checked - the filter is turned off.

Hmmmm, That is my limited knowledge exhausted then.
Sorry I couldn't be of any more help :-(
