Inbox Emails Disappear when Reply

Home User with Outlook 2003 .. When I reply to a message in my inbox, it
appears in my sent items folder but the original message disappears from the
inbox. Any insights appreciated

Do you have a view set to hide read items? (See View > Arrange By...)
