Inactive Mouse - Any ideas

Hi. I'm using an HP laptop, and have NO problems with other Office
applications. In Word, however, my mouse will work on the ribbon, but will
not move the cursor within the document I'm working on. Anyone got any ideas
how I can rectify this? Many thanks
