I recently swapped out the IDE hard drives between two
Windows 2000 machines. Unfortunately, both machines now
give me an "inaccessable_boot_device" blue screen of
death on startup.

*I've tried the recovery console tools FIXBOOT & FIXMBR
with no joy :(

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

You'll get this if the two machines had different IDE chip sets;
they'll be loading different drivers for the chipset so Windows won't
be able to use the drives attached to them.

There a several ways to fix it but the easiest is probably to run
Windows 2000 Setup again and re-install into the same directory so
it'll preserve most of the existing configuration.

Well if you put a w2k installed in an ide disk, and change the disk to
another machine, the most probably is that you will have to install again
the system. Only if the machines have a similar motherboard, a reinstalation
its posible, in other cases you have to install from zero. In windows xp
it's more possible that the reinstalation win be usefull.
