In XP, Unable to unset read only Attribute on CD files and folders

I have created a CD. All the files and folders on it are marked with the read only attribute checked or greyed/checked. When I try to unset this for a file with Explorer, under properties, I get an "Access denied" error. This happens to for folders too, but I don't really care about the folder setting. I do care about the file setting because whenI try to write to or delete the file, I am told that the file is read only. This happens on my CD write drive, not just my reader.

I also get "Access denied" when I try to unset the attribute using the DOS Attrib command on a file. When I try it on the folder, I get "Not found". Again, I don't care about the directory, just giving complete information.

Any ideas on what to do, besides scrapping the CD.

Thanks HPJ,

This is the first post anywhere I've seen where there was really an attempt to address the problem and not give the stock "CDs are read-only...blah, blah, blah." And I've looked at a lot. I usually use Windows Explorer for this kind of stuff, but its possible I created the CD with Easy CD Creator, then tried to delete a file with Explorer. Ill have to check some more, but at least you gave me a useful path to follow.

I did try to use Easy CD Creator to erase the CD, but the Erase function under Disc was greyed. I found out that if you don't let the "Autoplay" complete, Easy... gets uneasy, thinks its working with a disc it did not create, and greys some functions. This made it appear the problem was caused by the Read-only attribute.

Thanks for a real response,
Jim
